Tricks on a Ripstick

While the RipStik is often mistaken for the skateboard, the two have significant differences. The two-wheeled RipStik increases the difficulty of even the most basic skateboard maneuvers. As opposed to the stiff wooden skate deck, the RipStik features foot platforms made from lightweight plastic. RipStik.com recommends swinging your hips from side to side to propel the RipStik forward.
  1. Manual

    • Novice RipStikers often start with an elementary trick known as the manual. Once you reach a medium speed, apply downward pressure to the back end of the RipStik. As the front wheel lifts of the pavement, balance on the rear wheel. Avoid scraping the tail on the ground as this will decrease your speed. If you begin to wobble, lean forward and lower the front wheel of the RipStik onto the pavement. Add variations to the manual once you master the basic movements.

    Ollie

    • To jump over cracks in the sidewalk, learn how to Ollie your RipStik. Swing your hips to increase your momentum. Bend your knees to balance your RipStiking stance. Push down on the back end of the RipStik with your back foot. Jump vertically as the tail of the RipStik smacks against the ground. Lift your knees to maximize the airtime of your Ripstik Ollie. As the wheels of the RipStik land on the pavement, bend your knees to absorb the impact.

    180

    • Once you can land the Ollie consistently, challenge your RipStiking skills with a spinning maneuver known as the 180. Swing your shoulders in a rhythmic motion to reach a comfortable speed. Bend your knees to balance your RipStiking stance. Push down on the tail of the RipStik while jumping vertically. Rotate your shoulders to turn the RipStik 180 degrees in the air. Bend your knees as the two urethane wheels make contact with the ground.

    Kickflip

    • The kickflip is a more advanced trick. As you reach a comfortable speed, bend your knees to compress your RipStiking stance. Push down on the tail of the RipStik while jumping vertically. RipStik.com recommends kicking the inside edge of the board with the toes of your dominant foot. Raise your shoes above the board to allow it to spin. Lower your shoes onto the platforms as the RipStik flips around. To absorb the impact of the landing, bend your knees.
