Cover a table or other flat surface in newspaper, to avoid any grease or stains. Place the bearings, which you will have removed from the wheels of your board, onto the newspaper. There should be eight bearings in total, two from each wheel.

Examine the bearing shields to make sure there are no cracks. If there are, you will need to replace the shield with a new one after cleaning and greasing the bearing, otherwise you can just put the old one back on.

Remove the bearing shields from the bearings. There are two ways of doing this depending on the type of bearing shield you have. If you have a plastic shield, you will just need to pry off the top with a scalpel or utility knife. If you have a metal shield, it will have a C-ring on each side, you will need to pop off each C-ring using a small flat headed screwdriver. You are now ready to clean and grease your bearings, and can replace the shields when you are done.
