How to Take Skateboard Bearings Apart
Skateboards are simple devices made up of a wooden board, axles and wheels. Each wheel holds two sets of greased bearings which allow the wheels to rotate freely. Over time, the bearings lose their lubrication, which in turn causes the wheels to stick. An easy solution to this is to simply replace the bearings, but if you want a more cost-efficient plan, you can take the bearings apart and add more grease. This method can easily double the life of your bearings.

1
Remove the bearings from the wheel. The easiest way to do this without a special machine is to insert the very end of the axle into the center of the bearing. Pry against the bearing with the axle in a motion similar to prying off a bottle cap. The bearing should pop out immediately.
-
2
Flip the wheel over and repeat the process for the bearing on the other side.
-
3
Pry a small screwdriver between the outer casing of the bearing and the shield on top.
-
4
Press down on the screwdriver to pry the shield away. Do this gently, as too much force will likely damage the bearing shield.
