How Can I Fix My Skateboard Bearings That Are Stuck?

When water comes into contact with the bearings, they will rust and stick. Bearings will also stick from dirt or dust getting between the balls. Bearing oil makes clean bearings faster but does not help dirty bearings come unstuck. Use a cleaning solution that removes oil, grease and dirt.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the four wheels by loosening the truck's nuts with a socket wrench moving in a counterclockwise motion.

    • 2

Place the tip of the screwdriver in the hole of the bearing while holding the wheel with the opposite hand. Apply upward pressure to pop the bearings out.

    • 3

Squirt the cleaning solution onto the paper towel. Rub down each bearing until no black grease or dirt remains. Hold each bearing between your thumb and forefinger while spinning it to ensure that it rolls smoothly.

    • 4

Push the clean bearings into the wheels by applying pressure with the back of the screwdriver.

    • 5

Attach the wheels to the trucks by moving the nuts in a clockwise motion with the socket wrench. Spin the wheels to confirm they roll smoothly and have been cleaned adequately.
