How to Skateboard on Staircases

Skateboarding is a sport that requires a lot of dedication and entails a certain amount of bodily harm. Expert skateboarders can ride their board on nearly any obstacle, staircases included. Riding down a staircase on a skateboard is a trick that should only be attempted by seasoned skateboarders who are very comfortable with their skill level. Making it down an entire staircase intact is a feat, and proper safety equipment should always be worn.

Instructions

    • 1

Find a staircase that has an amount of stairs that you are comfortable with. It's best to first attempt to skateboard on a staircase that is not too large, as the degree of difficulty increases with the amount of steps.

    • 2

Survey the area and staircase to make sure it is not too heavily trafficked and the stairs are in good enough condition to ride down. Don't attempt to ride a staircase if signs or laws prohibit it.

    • 3

Give yourself plenty of space as a run-up to the staircase, as you will need copious amounts of speed. Remember that when attempting a trick like this, speed is your friend.

    • 4

Approach the staircase with your knees bent and a low center of gravity. Keeping a low center of gravity will improve your balance.

    • 5

When you are about to reach the first stair and begin your descent, shift your weight to your back foot without losing forward motion. You will want to lift the nose of your skateboard off the ground and descend the stairs solely on your back wheels.

    • 6

Keep weight on your back foot until you are approaching the last stair. At this point you will want to shift some of your weight forward and return your front truck (or wheels) to the ground. Ideally you will want to have the front truck reach the ground directly after your tail has slapped the last stair.
