How to Stop on a Skateboard When Going Downhill

Skateboarding downhill can provide a rush that is akin to surfing and snowboarding. This sensation does come at price, however, as skateboarding down steep hills can be extremely dangerous. Stopping a skateboard while going downhill involves a moderately challenging maneuver referred to as a "power slide." Instructions

  1. Stopping While Riding Downhill

    • 1

Find a hill that has a moderate incline and is not too steep. It is also important to make sure the hill is not heavily trafficked.

    • 2

Gather initial speed by push the skateboard as one would traveling on a street with no incline.

    • 3

As speed increases and the incline becomes more apparent, place two feet on skateboard. Stand with knees bent and prepare for the hill.

    • 4

Maneuver in a side to side manner as one would snowboarding in order to keep speed in check. Too much speed will result in disaster.

    • 5

Shift your weight to your back foot and sliding it forward as you prepare to stop at the end of the hill. Doing this will bring the back truck around in a screeching motion that will decrease your speed and allow you to stop.
