How to Make an Old Skateboard

Skateboarders who know their way around woodworking tools can make their own skateboards fairly easily. If you care about saving money and customizing the size, shape, design and style of your skateboard, this may be a good project for you. One popular skateboard style is old-fashioned, meaning the board looks old and beat up. Toting an old-fashioned skateboard will make you look like a professional skater who's been on a board for years.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a skateboard blank. These can be bought directly from online retailers or in skateboard shops.

    • 2

Draw holes on the blank where you intend to attach the trucks. Use a level to ensure the holes are aligned, or you will not be able to skate in a straight line with this blank. Drill the marked holes.

    • 3

Sand all sides of the blank with a hand sander. Keep sanding until the blank is completely smooth.

    • 4

Apply natural wood stain evenly over the entire blank. This step is optional.

    • 5

Apply paint to the bottom in a design of your choice. Let the paint dry according to the instructions on the can. This is also optional.

    • 6

Apply sealer all over the board. Let it dry.

    • 7

Assemble the truck and the wheels according to package instructions. Affix the truck to the holes in the board with screws.

    • 8

Apply the grip tape to the top of the board.

    • 9

Scruff up the skateboard to give it an old look. For example, you may rub sandpaper all over it to make the skateboard look more beat up and used.
