How to Pass the AFAA Group Fitness Exam

The Aerobics and Fitness Association of America or AFAA is one of the main organizations that certifies personal trainers and aerobics instructors. Many employers in the health and fitness field require a current certification from the AFAA or one of the other certifying organizations. To obtain certification through AFAA, you must pass a written and a practical exam.

Instructions

      Have a current CPR certification from either the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association when you register for the AFAA Certification Workshop.

      Study the fundamentals of exercise prior to attending the workshop. Make sure to include exercise safety, joint function and muscle groups.

      Brush up on your basic test taking skills. The written exam includes 100 multiple choice questions. You have 1 hour to take the test.

      Practice basic fitness moves. You will have to demonstrate a basic workout sequence including a warm up, cardio exercises and a cool down.

      Know the major muscle groups and the exercises that affect each group. You will have to give a demonstration of exercises that affect muscle groups decided on by the instructor. You have to be able to offer a verbal explanation of each step of the exercise.

      Attend the workshop. You will get a lot of good information during the workshop. Use the information to warm up your brain for the tests.

      Wear comfortable clothes to the workshop. Bring a clean exercise outfit to wear during the practical exam.
