Instructions

    • 1

Follow belly dance instructional videos at least once a week. Set aside a minimum of one hour, and be sure to remove any distractions, such as pets and family, from the room. Take time to warm up with stretches and cool down. Incorporate time to practice the moves you know along with new moves that you've learned. Do not try to learn more than 3 or 4 moves in one session, as this can be overwhelming.

    • 2

Buy books on belly dancing, or check them out from your local library. Often these books will give you insight into the culture, as well as provide step-by-step illustrated instructions on moves.

    • 3

Buy, or subscribe to, a belly dancing magazine. Just like the books, belly dancing magazines will sometimes give you instructions on moves, as well as more cultural insight. Although these may not be as in-depth as a book, when combined with instructional videos, they provide learning opportunities.

Hire an instructor to give you a private lesson. Sometimes it is important for an experienced instructor to critique your body work and give you important pointers.

    • 5

View online instructional videos. Belly dance enthusiasts often post videos demonstrating specific moves and giving advice. Some of the videos are very polished and professional and provide step-by-step instructions that rival the best instructional videos you can buy.
