How to Mount a Speed Bag on a Cinder Block

Speed bags are small punching bags mounted at face height on a swivel. Speed bags are used heavily by boxers, kick boxers and mixed martial arts fighters to improve speed and arm strength. They are also popular with non-fighters as a means of improving fitness. Speed bags can be mounted on cinder blocks, but you will need to use extra care so as to not crack the concrete.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare your speed bag kit. Your kit will have assembly instructions specific to your bag. The kit will include the bag itself and the frame that it hangs on.

    • 2

Mark the wall. Hold the speed bag frame up to the concrete wall where you wish to hang it. The frame will have holes in it for screws to go through. Use the marker to mark where the screws should go, then set the frame aside.

    • 3

Drill holes. Load a masonry drill bit of the appropriate size into your drill. Press the bit against the cinder block where you intend to drill and begin drilling. Proceed very slowly. Do not rush or you will crack the concrete. Pull the drill bit back out periodically to remove dust. When you have reached the desired depth, carefully remove the drill.

    • 4

Insert the concrete fasteners. Press the metal sheaths into the holes you drilled.

    • 5

Mount the frame. Hold the frame against the wall and match the holes in the frame with the holes in the cinder block. Get someone to hold it for you if your frame is very large. Insert masonry screws into the holes in the frame and push them into the fasteners. Carefully drill the screws in until the frame is secured tightly against the wall.
