DIY Weight Tree
Things You'll Need
- Three wooden 2-inch-by-4-inch planks, 2 feet long
- Screws
- Power screwdriver
- Two wooden 2-inch-by-4-inch planks, 30 inches long
- Drill bit, 1-inch diameter
- Two metal pipes, 1-inch diameter, 2 feet long
Instructions

1
Create a pi-symbol shape using the 2-foot-long wooden 2-by-4s, so the outer edge of the two beams used to make the legs are 6 inches from the sides of the top beam.
-
2
Drive screws through the 4-inch broad face of the top beam and into the two leg beams. Use two screws on each leg beam, so that your pi shape is now secured together. This pi shape creates the base for the stand when laid so the 2-inch sides of the planks are on the floor.
-
3
Drill a 1-inch hole, centered on the 4-inch face and 6 inches from one end of one 30-inch plank. Repeat on the second plank.
-
4
Drill a second hole in each 30-inch plank, 12 inches from the first hole.
-
5
Nestle one of the drilled planks into one of the inner corners of the base, so its 4-inch face is running along the inside of one leg and the 2-inch side is flush with the underside of the plank that makes the top of the pi shape. Position the plank so the end farthest from the two drilled holes is touching the base, with the drilled end extending above the base.
-
6
Drive four screws through the leg the drilled plank is resting against and into the drilled plank.
-
7
Secure the second drilled plank against the other inside corner. The holes in each plank will align to create two pairs of holes.
-
8
Insert a pipe through each set of holes and center the pipes.
-
9
Place weight plates on the pipes to store your plates off the floor.
