How to Modify P90X Chin-Up Bar Routines With Resistance Bands

Beachbody's P90X home-workout program incorporates cardio and resistance training. A lot of the resistance training relies on pullups and chinups. This can present a problem for some people. You may not be able to perform these exercises, or you might just not have room at home for a chinup bar. Whatever the case, you can do P90X using resistance bands as an alternative to using a chinup bar.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach your resistance band to the top of your doorway as directed by the manufacturer. Depending on the brand you're using it will attach in a different way. Beachbody's B-Lines, for instance, attach using an anchor that you place on the opposite side of the door before closing it. However it is attached, you should be able to pull down on both handles of the band simultaneously.

Position yourself a few feet from the door, sitting or kneeling on the floor. The closer you are to the door, the less resistance you'll have and the more reps you can expect to do.

Grip the bands by the handles and pull them toward your chest. Use the grip demonstrated in the video, usually normal, wide or narrow in either an overhand or underhand position. Hold the bands in place for approximately one second, in what is known as an "isometric hold." This is a maximum rep exercise, meaning you should do as many reps as you can physically manage.
