Purchase and wear quality running shoes. Go to a retailer that specializes in shoes and equipment for joggers. Be sure the retailer examines and measures your feet so that you can find a shoe that fits well and works with how your foot moves when it hits the pavement. This is known as your foot strike.

Warm up your body by walking briskly for 5 to 10 minutes prior to beginning your run. This will elevate your body's core temperature and prepare your body for the stetching portion of your warmup and for your jog. Stretch all of the major muscle groups in your legs including the calves, quadriceps, hamstring, groin and hip flexors.

    • 3

Keep your head up and your eyes focused in front of you as you are running.

    • 4

Maintain proper posture by keeping your torso straight and erect. Keep your head and torso aligned during the duration of your run. Keep your shoulders relaxed by rolling your shoulders back and keeping them low.

    • 5

Swing your arms back to front along the side of your body. Cup your hands slightly and keep your elbows bent at a 90-degree angle.

    • 6

Maintain a consistent breathing rhythm throughout your run by breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.
