How to Improve Reflexes in Sports

To make great plays in sports, you must develop reflexes that immediately react to the movement of other players or the ball. While some people naturally possess great reflexes, there are certain things you can do to improve them.

Instructions

    • 1

Play unconventional sports. For instance, handball forces an athlete to concentrate on the flight of the ball and react quickly to different angles and speeds. In addition, the you use your hands to hit the ball, which is much better for reflex training than sports that use a racquet.

Train with instruments designed to improve your reflexes, such as a reaction ball. Use this oddly shaped ball in a game of wall ball. It bounces at odd angles and forces you to quickly react to difficult bounces. See resources section for more information.

Play more video games. A prudent amount of video game play can improve your reflexes since you often must react to sudden movements with precision.

Improve your peripheral vision to see objects not directly in your line of sight. Improving your sight range can improve your reflexes. Practice moving a pen in front of your eyes while at the same time glimpsing an object to the side of and far away from the pen. Now move the pen but change the focus from the pen to the far away object and back as quickly as possible.
