How to Dress for Step Aerobics
Instructions

1
Avoid wearing open-toed shoes, dress shoes or boots for your footwear. Jeans and skirts are considered unsuitable for step aerobics. As a general rule, wear unrestrictive clothing you can sweat in.
-
2
Select a pair of suitable athletics shoes that provide excellent shock absorption. Most professional instructors recommend aerobics shoes, step shoes, cross-trainers or court shoes. Note that traditional running shoes do not make a good choice for step aerobics. It is better to buy workout shoes from a store that specializes in athletics footwear rather than a shoe warehouse. Add a pair of insoles to your purchase for added comfort.
-
3
Do not discount the importance of proper socks. Buy sweat socks that allow your feet to breathe. This will decrease the possibility that you will develop a case of athlete's foot as you begin to work out regularly.
-
4
Wear loose-fitting sweat pants and a T-shirt that gives you plenty of room if you're a casual step aerobics practitioner who works out only occasionally. These comfortable items of clothing will allow you to move around freely while keeping your costs relatively low.
-
5
Choose spandex workout gear if you are a workout enthusiast or like the extra support it gives your body as you work out. While the casual user generally doesn't need to make the considerable investment required to get top-of-the-line workout wear, enthusiasts do praise spandex outfits for their support of body movements and specifically-designed specialty fabric.

6
Be aware that many step aerobics classes will outline requirements for proper dress. Check with your instructor prior to the beginning of classes if you have any specific questions about proper dress, or to seek recommendations based on your experience and activity level. Your instructor may also provide your class with a syllabus that specifically outlines any expectations regarding proper dress.
