1
Take honest stock of your fitness level. If you're an inactive person looking to take the plunge and start getting in shape, you'll want a DVD targeted to beginners. If you work out regularly but are new to step aerobics, select something at the intermediate or advanced level.
-
2
Get a recommendation from a professional instructor (ideally one you've worked with in the past). He may be able to suggest a suitable video based on your particular fitness and experience level. He might also be able to tell you if there are any particular videos to avoid due to poor quality.
-
3
Call or visit your local sporting goods store. Many feature a DVD section where you will likely find a range of step aerobics videos. Other places you might find step aerobics DVDs include the electronics department of your local department store and your standard video store.
-
4
Review each of your options carefully. The title and/or description on the DVD jacket should give you a clear idea what level of fitness and expertise the DVD is geared toward. It is essential for your health and safety that you choose a DVD that is right for you. If you have several suitable options and don't know which to choose, select the one made by a person or company you've heard of.
-
5
Play the DVD and work out along with it. If you got a good, as-advertised workout suitable for a person with your level of fitness and experience, you're done. If it wasn't quite right, take the DVD back to the store where you bought it and adjust accordingly by trying another one.
