How to Do a Slide Step in Step Aerobics

The slide step in step aerobics is a perfect way to pick up the pace. The step uses a number of different muscles and promotes coordination. Fast paced and fun, the slide step is like ice skating in the aerobics room. It is moderately difficult move, requiring some coordination and quick movement, and begins similar to a normal step up movement, with one foot stepping up on the step.

      Start with the body bent as if skating and legs shoulder width apart, standing near the right side of the step. Step the left foot towards the middle of the step. Take the right leg and cross it behind the body, moving from the right to the left. At this point both the left foot and right foot should be aligned, with the left foot on the step and right foot on the floor.

      With the right foot behind the body, step the left foot off the step. Move the left leg back and to the left. The final position should have both legs spread apart at shoulder width, standing towards the left end of the step. The next move is going back towards the right side.

      Step the right foot towards the middle of the step. Take the leg and cross it behind the body moving from the left to right. At this point both the left foot and right foot should be aligned, with the right foot on the step and left foot on the floor.

      With the left foot behind the body, step the right foot off the step. Move the right leg back and to the right. The final position should have both legs spread apart at shoulder width, standing towards the right end of the step.
