1
Stand so the aerobics step is running lengthwise to the right of you.
-
2
Starting off with a basic forward curb-walk step, take a step onto the back corner of the step with your right foot, lift up your left foot and step forward on the floor. Lift up your right foot and step forward to the front corner of the step, and then lift up your right foot and step forward again on the floor. It’s just like walking forward with one foot on the curb of a sidewalk and the other on the road.
-
3
Now reverse directions, shifting your weight from your left foot onto your right foot, which should still be planted on the step. Lift up your left foot and take a step backwards onto the floor. Lift up your right foot and step back to the back corner of the step, and then lift up the left foot again and take another step back onto the floor.

Once you’ve gotten familiar with the curb-walk step, it’s time to incorporate the box step. Perform the forward curb-walk step, but when you reach the front corner of the step with your right foot, instead of stepping forward with your left, you’ll do a crossover step, sweeping your left foot out and around your right leg, planting it on the floor in front of you.

5
Lift up your right foot and then plant it on the floor to the right of your left foot. The aerobics step will now be to your left.
-
6
Reverse directions. Lift up your left foot and take a step on the front corner of the step. Lift up your right foot and step backward onto the floor. Lift up your left foot and step back to the back corner of the step. Sweep the right foot out and behind your left leg, planting it on the floor behind you.
-
7
Lift up your left foot and then plant in the floor to the left of your right foot. The aerobics step will now be on your right again. You’ve now completed a full rotation of the box step.

As you get more and more accustomed to the box step, increase your speed and incorporate arm movements into the routine.
