How to Build an Ab Kickboard
A kickboard is a common pool toy used for floating and paddling, but it can also be used as a piece of exercise equipment. A kickboard adds resistance to your abdominal exercises in the pool. A standard kickboard is essentially nothing more than a two-inch thick piece of painted foam, typically in the shape of a half-oval. Make your own kickboard with a few basic materials from your local arts and crafts store.
Things You'll Need
- 2-inch thick Styrofoam sheet
- Marker
- Utility knife
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brush
- Newspaper

1
Draw a half-oval outline on the Styrofoam sheet approximately 18 inches long, or draw a different shape if you like. The shape is not important since you are only using the kickboard to create resistance for your ab exercises.
-
2
Cut along the outline with your utility knife.
-
3
Spread out some old newspapers and lay the board on them.
-
4
Brush a layer of acrylic paint on one side of the board and wait an hour for it to dry. Brush another layer of paint on and wait another hour for it to dry. Flip the board over and paint the other side and the edges with two layers of paint. Allow the kickboard to dry overnight before taking it in the water.
