Water Aerobics Class Ideas
-
Hopscotch
-
Underwater hopscotch moves are a good addition to any water aerobics class. Begin by drawing an imaginary line in the pool or use a line on the bottom of the pool. Exercisers jump over the line and then jump back. Keep the abdominal muscles tight during this exercise for maximum benefits. Continue jumping for one minute then change it up and jump from side to side over the line. Be sure students bring their knees up as high as possible, to work the abdominal muscles.
Use Equipment
-
Use different types of equipment during your water aerobics class to keep it interesting. Fun noodles are always on hand at most pools and keep your class interesting. Perform isolation exercises by placing the fun noodle behind your back and raise your feet from the floor of the pool. Kick both feet simultaneously for a good cardiovascular workout. Large water aerobics classes are good for races with fun noodles. Divide the group into teams and have relay races with fun noodles. Have the students hold the fun noddle over their heads and run to designated areas in the pool and return as quickly as possible. Tag another member of the team and watch them race. The team that has all of their members complete the course first wins the race.
Add Music
-
Water aerobics is more interesting when you add music to your routines. Play the golden oldies for your senior citizens' class and pop for the younger group. Have the group jog in place to a fast song and slow it down for the cool down with slower music. Incorporating music into your class will keep it interesting for everyone. Use the sound system at the pool or bring your own portable player. Most types of portable systems are compatible for use with your personal MP3. Play different styles of music so there is something for everyone's taste. Avoid music with offensive topics or language.
