How to Cancel Ballys

Signing up for a Bally Total Fitness membership seemed like a good idea at the time, but now, for whatever reason, you need to cancel Ballys. It may be because you feel like you aren't using your membership, you were injured and you can't work out, or because you're moving, but sometimes canceling your membership can prove to be a challenging task. Make sure that you read through your contract and understand your rights before you attempt to cancel your membership.

      Decide to cancel three to five days after you sign the contract. Read your contract for a stipulation that allows a person to rethink her membership and cancel it before the contract goes into effect. Just bring your contract into the facility with you to rescind the contract.

      Read your contract through carefully, highlighting any portions that talk about membership cancellation. Since Bally uses a standard contract for all of its memberships, you'll probably notice that there are only three clauses for cancellation: moving 25 miles away from any Bally locations, disability or death. Otherwise, the length of the contract, usually three years, will be required.

      Send proof and notification of your moving to a new city where a Bally gym is not within 25 miles of your home. You'll need to send in proof such as your name on utility bills or credit card offers addressed to you at your new home. You can call Bally at (800) 515-CLUB with this information, and you'll be given an address to which you can send the proof. Bally will review the case and cancel the membership if you qualify.

      Obtain a doctor's note from a physician if you are canceling because of disability. The note needs to state that you cannot complete any type of physical activity in order to be accepted by Bally as a method for cancellation. Bring it to your local gym, or call customer service to obtain an address for a local customer service center to mail it to.

      Send a death certificate for someone who has passed in order to halt the automatic drafts and membership for a family member or friend who is deceased. Again, you'll need to bring it into the facility, or call to obtain an address to mail it in. You can get a copy of a death certificate from your county health department.

      Apply for a temporary hold on your account if you will not be able to come to the gym for some time. This will not cancel your membership but bring your payment to $4 while your account is inactive. Call customer service and ask for your account to be placed on inactive status. You can pay $48 for an entire year.
