How to Fold a Karate Gi
A karate gi (uniform) is made up of three parts: the jacket, the pants and the belt. It is made from a strong cotton canvas material with heavy stitching that is designed to hold up when the karateka (karate student) kicks, punches and stretches. Folding your karate gi properly will help keep it in good shape and also make it easier to carry to your dojo (training hall) or to tournament locations.

1
Lay the jacket flat with the back down and the lapels on top. Pull the sleeves out straight to the sides.
-
2
Fold the sleeves in toward each other to the point where the cuffs touch the opposite shoulders.
-
3
Fold the pant legs together and then fold the pants in half.
-
4
Lay your pants on top on your gi jacket. Place them in the center so that the pant cuffs sit right at the jacket's collar.
-
5
Fold the jacket's shoulders inward and enclose the pants inside the jacket.
-
6
Roll up the jacket from the bottom to the top.
-
7
Tie the belt around the rolled-up karate gi to hold it together. You can carry your gi by gripping the belt.
