How To Do Kick-Ups

A kick-up is a technique used in martial arts. Kick-ups are performed by lying on your back and throwing your legs forward and using momentum to jump onto your feet. Kick-ups have found their way into the break-dancing scene as a technique to jump back and forth from a laid-out position to a standing position. Kick-ups allow you to quickly rise to your feet to defend yourself in any unwanted altercation.

Instructions

    • 1

Lie on your back with your legs flat on the ground.

    • 2

Bring your legs toward your chest, and roll back onto your shoulders.

    • 3

Place your hands next to your head and above your shoulders to help push you off the ground. After much practice you can learn to kick up using only the momentum from your legs.

    • 4

Throw your legs up and forward to project yourself off of the ground.

    • 5

Tuck your head forward to bring your upper body to a standing position. Throwing your arms forward will also help produce momentum.

    • 6

Land on your feet in a standing position.
