Guide on How to Do Taijutsu

Taijutsu is a Japanese term that refers to any traditional style of unarmed combat. Contrary to what some believe, taijutsu is not really a fighting style in itself although there is a common misconception that this is the case. This may in part stem from the popular anime series Naruto wherein the characters often refer to their fighting techniques as taijutsu. Taijutsu commonly refers to traditional Japanese martial arts like karate, jujitsu or aikido. In a broader sense taijutsu can be translated as meaning to use the body for self-defense.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a course of study for your pursuit of taijutsu. Traditional Japanese options, as mentioned before, include karate, judo and aikido as well as ninjutsu. Different styles suit different practitioners. Karate offers the best stand up striking techniques whereas judo and aikido teach students to turn the momentum of opponents attacks against them. Ninjutsu is a darker, more complex martial art that was developed by the ninjas in feudal Japan.

Find a school to study your chosen brand of taijutsu. The actual style you choose may be somewhat determined by the schools and training programs that are available to you.

    • 3

Attend classes regularly and apply yourself to learning the techniques. Taijutsu and other martial arts require discipline. The more you do them the better you will get at them. Practicing in and out of class will enable you to accelerate your progress and become a competent practitioner of taijutsu in a shorter period of time.
