How to Choose a Billiard Cue

A billiard cue for many can make the difference between a fierce targeted eight-ball shot and one that misses the mark. The relationship between the billiard cue and the serious billiard player is one of teamwork. Finding the right billiard cue is a matter of finding one that fits you perfectly.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the size cue you want. Cues range in size from 40 to 60 inches. Depending on your height and reach, you'll want to deduce what size cue fits you best. You can do this by trying out a few cues of varying lengths. You'll know which size fits you best after playing with different sizes.

Look at the wood the cue is made out of. If you find yourself having a more aggressive approach to shooting, you may want to look into a thicker wood.

    • 3

Decide on the weight of the cue that you want to use. The weight of a cue will range between 18 and 28 grams. If you'd like more force in your shots, then you should look into a heavier cue.

    • 4

Look at the handle or shaft. Handles come made from many different materials. It will be up to you to identify the type of feel you want the material to have to provide you with a comfortable grip and and easy release.

    • 5

Examine the break or joint of the cue. Make sure that there are no inconsistencies in how the two pieces of the cue come together. They should make a perfectly flush smooth connection with no play at all.
