How to Wire a Boat Trim Tab Rocker

When you wish to wire a boat trim tab rocker switch, you're fortunate; like many boat systems, the trim tab system is a modular, plug-and-play system. This means that the switch plugs into the hydraulic system that controls the trim tabs. This alleviates many of the problems associated with wiring the switch. Even so, you still must have some basic soldering skills to finish the connections, because the switch is wired through the ignition key switch.

Things You'll Need

  • Silver-bearing, rosin-core solder
  • Soldering tool

Instructions

Pull the orange wire from the trim tab switch to the ignition key switch. Solder the orange wire with the wire has an inline fuse-holder to the "BAT" lug of the ignition key switch, using silver-bearing, rosin-core solder and a soldering tool.

Locate the male 8-position, 8-connection connector that comes from the trim switch. It will have wires that are red, green with dark green stripe and white with blue stripe wires. Locate the female 8P8C connector with wires of the same colors, that comes from the hydraulic pump.

Push the male 8P8C connector from the trim switch into the female 8P8C connector that comes from the hydraulic pump. Use the snaps on the male connector to snap the two connectors together in a watertight bond.
