How to Line a Campfire Pit
As the setting sun casts golden light upon your hiking trail and the temperature begins to drop, you start to fantasize about a roaring campfire and your comfortable bedroll. A campfire is an integral part of any excursion into the wilderness. It serves as the centerpiece of the campsite, providing a place for everyone to gather around and rest up before the next activity. A grill may be placed over the top if food preparation is the objective. Building a temporary pit with a safe lining is a simple task.

Dig a circular hole with a depth of at least 6 inches. The diameter of the hole should be at least 2 feet.
-
3
Arrange large rocks around the top edge of the hole. Place the rocks as close together as possible. Fill in any spaces between the rocks with small logs or branches.
