How to Make an Oven on a Campfire
Some people who go camping do so to get away from the amenities of home. For others, the prime motivation to go camping is simply to enjoy nature. These people often like at least some of the comforts of home, such as hot food. And just because they are camping does not mean they cannot warm food in an oven. Campers can build their own oven and use a campfire to provide the requisite heat.
Things You'll Need
- Tin can, 1-gallon size
- Can opener
- Tin snips
- Can punch opener
- Gloves
- Grill grate
Instructions

1
Slide on a pair of gloves to protect your hands from sharp metal.
-
2
Grab the can opener and use it to remove one end of the tin can.
-
3
Hold the can so the open end faces downward. Make a cut 3 inches high and 4 inches across. Then bend the metal outward. This is the oven door.
-
4
Punch four holes into the side of the can, just below where the sides and top meet.
-
5
Place the part of the can you cut off onto a grill grate over the campfire. Place the food onto the cut-off part of the can, then place the oven over the food.
-
6
Push the oven's door shut while the food is cooking.
