Easy Do-It-Yourself Ideas for the Camper
-
Add Light
-
A pink flamingo decoration is a classic theme. A simple, low-cost way to add lighting is to install LED lights. This sounds complicated, but it's not. Most marine and RV stores have LED lighting that operates on small, AA batteries. This is stick-on lighting that doesn't use electricity, nor does it run down your bigger battery if you're supplying the camper from a 12-volt system. LED lanterns and lamps are available, too. LED lights use very little energy and are brighter than regular plug-in lamps. To save on electricity and 12-volt power, replace the bulbs in existing lamps with LED bulbs or energy-saving bulbs. To add character, recover the lamp shades. Add jute and shells, zebra strips or any variation for a personal touch.
Add Color
-
A LED lantern is a cheap, energy-saving light source. Paint is an easy way to brighten an old camper. Clean all of the walls, prime and paint. Yellow paint can make a small camper cheery. Yellow is a great backdrop for retro looks. White can be a backdrop to almost any decorating. White with coastal or navy accents can give a nautical feel. White with red accents can give a country-themed feel. Just don't go with dark colors unless you want that cave look. Dark colors can make a small space seem even smaller.
Throw Pillows
-
A cormfortable bed is a must for that getaway. High-thread count sheets, a nice comforter and pillows can add to the restfulness of getting away. Curtains add character and privacy. Throw rugs and a few small pictures make it your home away from home.
Baskets and Storage Bins for Space
-
Storage and space can be a problem with RVs and campers. Baskets and stackable storage bins labeled in any available storage space can save time when hunting for that first aid kit or rain gear. Remember that items you use the most or need in a hurry -- such as the first aid kit -- should be kept where it will be most accessible. Stackable wire shelves from any hardware store can add needed storage space too. Anything that can move should be secured when the camper is on the road.
