How to Fix a Small Hole in a Pop Up Camper Top

Pop up campers typically have a hard vinyl roof. This material is susceptible to small rips, tears and holes. If a small hole develops in your pop-up camper, get it sealed up before it grows into a larger hole or too much water leaks in, causing damage to the interior camping cabin. Small holes can be repaired quickly with one of two methods. Keep the camper open to repair the roof, because the repair requires sealing both sides of the surface.

Things You'll Need

  • Pop-up roof repair tape

Instructions

  1. Caulk

    • 1

Wipe off the area around the small hole. Apply a small dollop of silicone caulk to the hole on the inside of the roof. Use the putty knife to smooth it out and make sure the caulk gets into all parts of the hole.

    • 2

Get up on the roof and add another dollop of caulk to the outside of the hole. Use the putty knife to smear it smooth and flat. Let the caulk dry.

    • 3

Pour a little water on the fixed hole and check to see if any water enters through the hole.

    Tape

    • 4

Cut a piece of pop-up roof repair tape (found at outdoor camping stores and RV centers) and place it over the hole on the inside of the camper.

    • 5

Go to the roof, cut a second piece of the repair tape and place it over the hole.

    • 6

Add a layer of silicone caulk to the outside tape as a redundancy to the repair.
