How to Recycle a Jetboil Canister

Though many portable fuel canisters are sealed and recycling therefore is not an option, Jetboil fuel canisters are designed to be recycled with everyday metals. Recycling the Jetboil canisters reduces waste and creates a more efficient use of the metal product. Recycling fuel canisters can be problematic because the containers are under pressure with gas. As such, the process requires an extra step to relieve the pressure before the canisters can be melted down and recycled.

      Place the round hole of the Jetboil CrunchIt tool over the round head of the canister. Apply pressure to ensure the hooks have a firm grab on the canister's head.

      Apply hard pressure to the base of the tool until the spike punctures the canister. Hold the spike in place while the pressure slowly releases from the canister.

      Remove the spike from the canister and place the tool in a safe area. Crush the canister with a heavy rock.

      Place the canister in a metal recycling bin or deliver it to a recycling center.
