How to Adjust a Petzl Ecrin Helmet

If you climb -- whether ice or rock -- you need a climbing helmet. The Petzl Ecrin is a helmet designed for any of the climbing disciplines. The Ecrin is fully adjustable via a series of nylon straps and plastic clips. A helmet is useless unless snug and firm on your head and chin. Because the helmet is a one-size-fits-all, the straps are made to be used on a variety of head sizes.

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen the chin strap by pushing on the black tab in the center of the three head straps, found on either side under the ears of the helmet. Loosen the straps to the loosest setting.

    • 2

Place the helmet onto your head so the brim is over the crown of your forehead. Bring the ear straps down over your ears so they are surrounded by the three nylon straps and the adjustment clips are under your ears.

    • 3

Flip the right side adjustment tab up and open. Pull the down on the nylon strap and adjust until the chin strap is firm over your chin without restricting your mouth's movement. Flip the tab down to lock the straps in place.

    • 4

Move your head up and down to check for slippage. The helmet will slip slightly, but not too much. If the helmet slides over your eyes, it is too loose. Go to the tab and readjust the strap and test again.
