How to Organize Cords with Knots

If you have a variety of different diameter cords and ropes, as many outdoor enthusiasts do, it helps to keep them organized and free from tangles. Using simple square knots or a daisy chain braid keeps your cords separated by size, and tangle free. These two knots are easy to use and are not meant for holding weight. Another benefit of these knots is they are easily and quickly untied, allowing quick access to your cords.

Instructions

    • 1

Organize and separate your cords by diameter. Set them out so they are all next to each other length-wise.

    • 2

Pick up each group of cords, by diameter, and hold at least six inches from one end. Wrap the end up and around the cords and make a slip knot. Hang the cords on a hook or nail at the slipknot.

    • 3

Pick up a group of same-diameter cords. Make a loop at the end of the group and push another loop made from the main cord (under the first) up and through the first loop. Make another loop and push up and through the loop in front. Continue this until you reach the end of the cords. Tie the end with a slip-knot. This is a daisy chain style of cord knot.

Untie the slip-knot at the base of the daisy chain and pull down the ends. This pulls the entire daisy chain down and out, giving you access to all the cords when needed. Rethread the daisy chain after removing the cords needed.
