How to Adjust a Porter Bike Carrier

The Bike Porter 2 and 3 bicycle rack is made by Saris and provides a stable method of transporting bicycles outside of the car. These racks attach to the trunk or rear end of cars via a system of rubber bumpers and nylon straps. By adding tension to the straps the rack gets closer to the auto and uses the tension to secure to the auto body. Nylon stretches, and because of this the rack requires minor adjustments from time to time to keep it secured to the auto.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the bicycle cradle straps. These are black rubber bands with holes in them, much like a belt. Pop the strap out of the holding nib on the rack.

    • 2

Place the bicycles onto the cradles and pull the straps over the frames and back onto the nib. Pull the strap as tight as possible and attach the strap to the nib via the tightest hole possible.

    • 3

Pull on the nylon straps attaching the rack to the car. If any straps are loose, go to the strap's tightening device. Pull the end of the nylon strap down and forward to tighten the strap and make the rack rest closer to the car.

    • 4

Tighten all nylon straps and recheck the bicycle cradle straps to keep them as tight as possible. If they loosened during the nylon strap tightening, pull the strap out of the nib and set it to the next hole down the strap.
