How to Load a Four-Bike Carrier

A bicycle rack lets you transport your two-wheel steeds on your four-wheeled automobile. Racks are made to handle between one and six bicycles, depending on style. When using a multi-bicycle rack, say for four bicycles, it is important the bicycles be loaded properly to reduce rub on the bicycle frame. The handiest rack to use for multiple bicycles is a spare tire or trunk mount rack. This keeps the bicycle saddles within easy height for the loading and unloading.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the bicycle cradle straps on the rack. Most racks have ratchet straps or rubber-gasket style straps. Make sure they are all open.

    • 2

Place the first bicycle on the cradle closest to the far end of the rack. Place the straps into the cradle and tighten to secure the bicycle onto the device.

    • 3

Load the next bicycle onto the next farthest cradle with the handlebars on the opposite side as the first bicycle. Close the straps and tighten.

    • 4

Place the third bicycle onto the next cradle nearest the second bike. Make sure the handlebars face in the opposite direction of the bicycle it is nearest. Stagger the handlebars so they do not hit each other or cause the frames to rest unevenly on the cradles. Tighten the straps.

    • 5

Put the final bicycle onto the cradle nearest the last bicycle. Tighten the straps.
