How to Install a Cateye Velo 5

The Cateye Velo 5 is a multi-function bicycle computer. The device consists of three parts: the display screen, receiver and the transceiver. When the three pieces are installed, they translate the rotation of the wheel into speed, distance traveled and velocity. The Velo 5 comes with everything needed to install the pieces, with the exception of a 4 mm hex wrench needed to mount the display unit bracket on the handlebars.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the display bracket clamp around the inner portion of the handlebars -- left or right side is up to you. Screw the bracket onto the bars with the hex wrench. Insert the computer display into the bracket.

    • 2

Wrap the display cord down the left-side shifter cable and let it rest to the side until the receiver is installed.

    • 3

Place the receiver rod against the outer right-hand side of the bicycle fork, about 1/3 of the way down, just below the tire. Zip tie it to the fork with two of the Velo 5 zip ties. Cut off the excess plastic on the tightened zip tie with the knife or scissors.

Place the transceiver disc onto a spoke on the right hand side of the front wheel. Align it so it is on the same level as the lower end of the receiver rod as it spins. The disc mounts via the spoke thread on the back of the device.

Run the display screen cord to the receiver rod and plug the cord into the rod. Use another zip tie to secure the cable to the rod and the bicycle fork. Cut off excess plastic from the zip tie.

Take the display out from the bracket and use a quarter to open the battery panel. Insert the enclosed battery to the battery housing and close the panel. Put the display back into the bracket.
