Race Face XY Specifications

Since the early 1990s, Race Face has designed and manufactured high-performance cycling components, including stems, cranks, handlebars and brackets. Among its product lineup, the Race Face XY bicycle seat post features high saddle angle maneuverability in a lightweight package. As of 2011, Race Face no longer manufactures the XY seat post, having since replaced the model with its Cadence, Evolve, SL and Turbine options.
  1. Physical Specifications

    • Because seat tube sizes vary per bicycle frame, the Race Face XY seat post comes in a variety of diameters, each made to match a different-sized seat tube. The Race Face XY comes in 26.8-millimeter, 27-millimeter, 27.2-millimeter, 28.6-millimeter, 30.2-millimeter, 30.4-millimeter, 30.9-millimeter and 31.6-millimeter diameter options. Race Face XY seat posts come in 330-millimeter and 400-millimeter lengths. Some XY seat posts have a 1-inch rearward offset of 275 grams while others have a zero offset of 240 grams.

    Features

    • Race Face's XY model seat post features air alloy tubing, a lightweight tubing option. This post has an option called "trick offset," which allows riders to manipulate the component into a virtually limitless number of saddle angles and positions. Users can adjust both the tilt and lateral position of the saddle. The highly-adjustable Race Face XY post features machined aluminum construction. The component's seat post heads feature Race Face's proprietary post shape and sport laser-etched height lines. It comes in black with silver accents. The XY post caters to cross-country, urban and mountain bike riding as well as BMX and road racing bikes.

    Considerations

    • The Race Face XY seat post requires user installation. Riders will need a 5-millimeter Allen, or hex, key with a 5-inch long handle. Race Face recommends using a torque wrench during installation, though this is not absolutely necessary. Cyclists may also need sandpaper and grease during the installation. In the user's manual, Race Face warns that an improper seat post fit can result in premature failure of the post or damage to the bike frame.

    Pricing and Availability

    • Because Race Face has discontinued the XY model seat post -- originally offered in 2001 -- cyclists may have a hard time tracking one down. Physical and Internet retailers no longer sell the component in new condition. The seat post sometimes turns up for sale or trade at trading forums offered by online enthusiast communities, such as Single Track World. Online auction sites or local bike shops may offer the part for sale in used condition. As of 2011, enthusiasts and online auctioneers sold the part for prices ranging from about $30 to $50.
