2007 Schwinn Fastback Specifications

Schwinn began racing its bicycles in 1896. By the end of that year, the young company had accumulated more victories than any other brand of bicycle. More than 100 years later, the racing lineage is evident in the design of the 2007 Schwinn Fastback Comp. Sporting clean lines and a narrow profile, the model came in "Electric Blue" and originally retailed for $1,099.
  1. Frame and Fork

    • The 2007 Schwinn Fastback used a TIG-welded aluminum frame blended with lightweight carbon seat stays and Schwinn Black Label Carbon Pro fork with Chromoly steering tube. The fork steering tube diameter measured 1/8 inch. The Fastback frame was available in small, medium, large and extra large. The frame incorporated a sloping top tube for easier mounting.

    Cockpit

    • The Fastback featured a road-tuned handlebar and stem joined to the fork via an FSA IS-3 integrated headset. The road-tuned handlebar allows a rider to crouch in a more aerodynamic position during operation of the bicycle. The model included a Selle San Marco Ponza saddle coupled with a 27.2 mm diameter aluminum seat post. Shimano Tiagra brake levers and Tektro RX 40 caliper brakes provided the bicycle's stopping power.

    Drivetrain

    • The 2007 Schwinn Fastback included a Tiagra front derailleur, Shimano 105 rear derailleur and front and rear Tiagra STI gear shifters. STI, or "Shimano Total Integration," is a design of shifter that incorporates both braking and gear shifting functions in a single control. The design allows hands to remain on the handlebar at all times when operating the bicycle. The Fastback is fitted with a nine-speed rear cassette and Truvativ Elita 50/36 crank mated to a Truvativ Giga X Pipe 68 mm English bottom bracket. Driven by a Shimano CN-5600 chain, the nine-speed rear cassette and double chain ring crank gave the Schwinn Fastback Comp a total of 18 possible gears.

    Wheel and Tires

    • Schwinn Fastback wheels were comprised of Alex RB500 rims connected to Formula RB hubs via black steel spokes. A Schwalbe Blizzard 700x23c tire cushioned each wheel. Wheels were held in place by quick-release skewers. Eliminating the need for a wrench, the quick-release skewer design allows a wheel to be effortlessly removed from the bicycle in the event of a flat. Fitted with presta valves, Schwalbe Blizzard tires are inflated using a presta valve-compatible bicycle pump.
