Schwinn Specifications

The Schwinn Bicycle Company began operations in Chicago in 1895. Pacific Cycle bought the company in 2001; that company was eventually acquired by Dorel Industries. Schwinn makes bikes for a variety of environments and riding styles, such as urban, mountain and leisure.

  1. Mountain

    • Mountain bikes help you travel through rough mountain terrain and high altitudes. Schwinn produces 16 different mountain bikes. These bikes have multiple gears and shock absorbers.

      Schwinn creates bikes designed for both men and women. The Frontier model is just for female riders, and comes in either pink or black. It features a steel frame and a Trail Tuned saddle, and comes with a 21-speed drive train. The wheels are 26 inches. Bikes in this category can range from $100 to over $5,000.

    Urban

    • Schwinn's urban bikes, which include the avocado green Courier, are more flashy than their mountain counterparts. The bikes do not have as many gears as mountain bikes, but they are just as durable. The Hinge is a one-speed bike with an electric blue steel frame. It features a three-piece chain guard and 20-inch tires, and it comes with a kickstand and padded saddle. Schwinn has eight bikes in this category. These bikes range in price from approximately $150 to more than $1,000.

    Cruiser

    • Schwinn's 30 cruiser bikes are for people who enjoy a more leisurely ride. These bikes have a classic aesthetic, but provide comfort and maneuverability. The Town and Country features long handle bars and a wide seat. It has two wheels in the back, and a basket sits between the wheels. One can use this bike for hauling cargo or simply a picnic basket. Bikes in this category range in price from about $100 to more than $700.

    Kids

    • Schwinn's children's bikes are for riders aged 3 through 12. The Tiger model features blue, orange and black colors and lettering, and has a steel frame. It is a one-speed bike with 12-inch wheels, and has reflectors and a rear coaster brake. Schwinn has more than 30 children's bikes, which range in price from $100 to more than $400.
