How to Lace a Grivel Crampon Binding

Grivel makes equipment designed for ice climbing, rock climbing and mountaineering. Grivel products meet the rigorous safety standards of the International Federated Mountain Guides Associations, which is no small feat. Grivel crampons are available in hinged or unhinged versions, depending on your needs. The strap system of Grivel crampons is intentionally designed to be simple and quick. The company makes the strap system this effortless intentionally, as frozen hands have a hard time threading intricate pieces of equipment.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the crampon for plates down on a work bench. Pinch the strap sliders on the ankle clip part of the crampon and thread the strap down into the right side slider.

    • 2

Twist the strap so it makes a figure eight and thread the open end through the tow strap slit. Pull the strap end back to the left side slider.

    • 3

Pinch the left side slider clip and thread the strap down and into the slider. Release the clip.

    • 4

Slide the mountaineering boot into the crampon so the toe and front of the boot is under the toe clip and strap. Keep the center of the figure eight at the mid-point of the boot and tighten the strap at the sliders at the ankle.
