How to Attach a Lip Strap

A lip strap is a small strap attached to a horse's bridle that prevents the horse from biting the shank. The strap runs through the curb chain and attaches to the bit shanks, keeping the curb chain in place. Correctly installing the lip strap may seem somewhat confusing if you've never done it, but you can attach the strap in a few simple steps.

      Attach the lip strap to the loop on the bit's shanks, placing the short end of the buckle on the left shank and the long end on the right.

      Thread the long end of the lip strap through the curb chain ring.
