Official Dart Board Hanging Rules

You want to set your dart board up correctly so that you can begin practicing and playing all those challenging games. Hanging the board is really quite easy once you know the proper alignment measurements; here's a look at the necessary setup.
  1. Height

    • The center of the bullseye should be 5 feet 8 inches from the floor.

    Distance

    • The throwing line should be 7 feet 9 1/4 inches away. This is measured in a perpendicular line to the center of the dart board, not from the wall on which the dart board hangs. For best results, use a plumb hanging from the center of the dart board and measure out from there.

    Considerations

    • Soft-tip dart boards should be 8 feet away.

    Alignment

    • The "20" section should be directly on top.

    Area

    • While not an official rule, a good guideline is to hang the board in a clear area that has 5 by 11 feet of clear space. It should be away from foot traffic and potential breakables.
