How to Make Deep Drop Weights

Fishing has grown into a myriad of recreational and professional subgroups. Some anglers are content to fish at the tops of lakes, streams and oceans for their recreational needs. However, in recent years deep water fishing has grown in popularity to get access to the many schools of fish that inhabit the oceans well below sea level. Deep water fishers need weights to reach these fish between 200 and 3,000 feet deep. You can make these weights by following a simple process.

Things You'll Need

  • 200 pound tackle
  • 80-pound class electric reel
  • 130-pound class heavy-action rod

Instructions

    • 1

Gather all of the materials and use a cart to load them onto a boat. Their significant weight prevents easy maneuverability.

    • 2

Tie the electric reel to the tackle. Use an extremely heavy 200 pound tackle to ensure that it can reach the deep parts of the ocean. An electric reel is also required to do the heavy lifting required for such fishing.

    • 3

Place several hooks on the tackle, up to five will work. Attach any standard ocean bait, there is not a huge difference between deep water bait and surface bait.

    • 4

Use the rope to hook the reel and rod together. When the rod tip notifies you of a bite, turn on the reel and let the two machines do the work of pulling your catch to the surface.
