How to Use a Moleskin

Feel for any areas called hot spots on your feet. You will be able to identify these hot spots on your feet when you are hiking. The areas will feel raw and at times sore to the touch.

Remove your boots and socks and dry your foot thoroughly. Often, blisters form due to moisture.

Cut the moleskin with your scissors. The shape should be a bit larger than the affected area.

Remove the backing of the moleskin and apply it directly on the area. Smooth it from the center outward. Make sure there are no wrinkles as you smooth it onto your skin.

Remove the moleskin at night to let area heal and breathe. Apply the moleskin to the same area if it is necessary.
Using Moleskin for Blisters

Remove your boot and sock, and dry the area where the blister is.

Take a sterile needle and lance the blister's surface if it contains any fluid to drain it. Gently squeeze the fluid out and wipe it away.

Cut the moleskin into a shape slightly larger than the blister.

Remove the backing of the moleskin and apply it over the blister if it is still intact. If the blister is open, cut a small piece of gauze and place it over the moleskin before apply the moleskin. Make sure that there are no wrinkles as you smooth the moleskin from the center outward.

Remove the moleskin at night to allow the blister to heal. Reapply the next day if necessary.
