How to Use a CamelBak for Hiking

CamelBaks are one of the most popular hydration packs on the market. They are designed to augment or replace a bulky and hard-to-carry water bottle. CamelBaks have a small plastic bladder you fill with water and place inside a durable backpack. Water is consumed through a tube connected to the bladder, which usually has a bite nozzle on it to prevent water from leaking out of the tube. These hydration packs can be very useful when hiking, jogging or biking.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the inner water bladder of the CamelBak through the opening on the backpack. Some smaller CamelBaks can be filled through a cap on the backpack without having to remove the inner bladder.

    • 2

Remove the cap from the bladder and fill it with water or any desired beverage. If you fill the bladder with something other than water, you will need to thoroughly clean it according to the manufacturer's instructions to prevent bacterial growth.

    • 3

Seal the bladder cap and examine it for any potential leaks.

    • 4

Place the bladder back into the CamelBak backpack pouch.

    • 5

Feed the tube through the slot opening on the inside of the CamelBak and place it so it is accessible when you want a drink.

    • 6

Test the water flow. Unlock the drink valve, bite on the nozzle and drink from it as you would a straw to make sure water is flowing.
