How to Assemble a Military Backpack

Many military backpacks are designed as modular pieces of gear. The MOLLE systems, or the Modular Lightweight Load Carrying Equipment, is the latest version of the military backpack systems. The MOLLE is built around a vest where all other packs and accessories are strapped. The vest is fitted so you have a custom piece of gear. Benefits include less stress on the back and waist, and less chafing from straps and clips.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on the MOLLE vest and pull the side straps in toward the navel and chest to tighten the vest into your torso. Remove the vest and set on a flat surface.

    • 2

Thread the main pack onto the back of the vest. The MOLLE backpack system uses ballistic nylon clips. Marry the pack's female to male clips once threaded through the dedicated sleeves on the back.

    • 3

Hang medic packs, knife holsters, side-arm holsters and accessory packs to the sides of the vest. Thread each pack through a side sleeve and clip the female to male ends of the clips together to secure the accessories or holsters to the vest.

    • 4

Insert hydration bladders into the dedicated sleeve inside the main pack on the back of the vest. Run the hydration tube up and over the shoulder through the dedicated runner-sleeve.

    • 5

Pick up the vest and place onto your body. Clip the sternum and waist straps together and begin your hike.
