Washing Instructions for Toklat Fleece Saddle Pads

Your saddle pads need regular washing to protect your horse's back from developing sores. Fleece pads, which are made of polyester, wool or sheepskin, should be washed consistently, since the fleece can really hold dirt and sweat. Also, if that fleece pad is the pad you use for showing, you want it to stay as clean and white as possible so you can make a good impression in front of judges.
  1. Polyester Fleece

    • Toklat markets its CoolBack fleece fabric as being easy to care for, safe for both washing machines and dryers on the regular cycles. In fact, Toklat claims that CoolBack works better the more it is washed. As with any product that touches your horse's skin, you should be careful to only use detergents that your horse is not allergic to. To get white pads really clean, you can bleach the fabric. To get ground-in dirt out, soak the pads in a mixture of detergent and water.

    Wool Fleece

    • Toklat WoolBack pads, the wool version of the company's fleece pads, also can be machine washed and dried. The pads must be washed on the gentle cycle with cold water and tumble dried on low heat. A mild detergent, or one of the detergents designed for washing sheepskin, is best for use on WoolBack products.
