Oregon Family Equestrian Activities

The Oregon Family Equestrian Activities organization brings families together to raise and show horses, as well as to compete against each other. Created in 2000, the organization allows member families to participate in shows and earn awards throughout the year. The organization has around 300 members as of 2011 and is growing each year.
  1. Membership

    • The shows that take place throughout the year are open to members only. As of 2011, the cost of joining the organization is $15 for adults, $10 for age 17 and under and $30 for a couple or family membership. An application form can be downloaded from the website and mailed to Oregon Family Equestrian Activities along with a check for the membership fee. Each membership also includes a subscription to the newsletter and notice of events.

    Shows

    • Various shows are scheduled throughout the year, allowing members to enter their horses into the competition. Anyone who wishes to hold a horse show that is affiliated with Oregon Family Equestrian Activities can do so upon approval. The application should be submitted at least 45 days prior to the event. The results of the horse show must be submitted back to the organization within 10 days of the end of the event.

    Awards

    • When a horse is entered into a competition with the Oregon Family Equestrian Activities organization, points are earned based on the placement of the horse. At the end of the year, the point winners in various categories and age ranges are given awards. Riding styles that are rewarded include English, Western and halter. The age ranges that are offered are 10 and under, 13 and under, 14 to 17, 18 to 38 and 39 and over.

    Recreational Riders

    • Oregon Family Equestrian Activities is not just for those who wish to show their horses or use them in competition. Recreational riders are also welcome to join the organization. Several trails are available for recreational riders to use. The organization logs the hours the riders spend on the trails, and at the end of the calendar year, riders are recognized for the time they have spent on the trails.
