How to Install the Shellholder on a Lee Breech Lock Challenger Press

The Lee Breech Lock Challenger Press is a cartridge loading press manufactured by Lee Precision for the hand-loading and reloading of metallic rifle and pistol cartridges. The Lee Breech Lock Challenger can be used on a variety of calibers, covering virtually every possible rifle and pistol cartridge. The shell holder is a metal device designed to hold the brass cartridge casing in place for reloading. Since different cartridges use differently sized casings, the shell holder must be replaced with one of the appropriate size each time the hand loader wishes to change calibers.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the shell holder in hand and orient it so that the open side of the shell holder is facing in the desired direction. Typically, you will want this to be the side of your dominant hand. For instance, if you are right-handed, orient the open side of the shell holder to be facing toward the right.

    • 2

Locate the shell holder retainer. This is a metal slot surrounded by a black retaining spring and should be in place at the very top of the reloading press' ram.

    • 3

Align the slotted underside of the shell holder with the slots in the shell holder retainer and push the shell holder firmly into place. You can now adjust the angle of the shell holder as desired by rotating the open end to the right or the left.
