Instructions

    • 1

Twist your khaki shirt to make irregular bunches throughout the fabric. Hold these twists in place with rubber bands. Create various shapes in your shirt by stuffing plastic bags into different areas of the shirt and holding them in place with the rubber bands.

    • 2

Fill one bucket with hot water. Read the directions on the box of dye. Mix the dye solution in your second bucket. Use a single color of dye at a time.

    • 3

Submerge your shirt -- twisted and bunched -- into the hot water for five minutes. Use your tongs to remove it and then place it into the bucket of dye.

    • 4

Stir the shirt steadily for twenty minutes in the bucket of dye.

    • 5

Remove your shirt from the bucket. Rinse out all excess dye.

    • 6

Let the shirt dry, and then remove the rubber bands and plastic bags. Twist the shirt in the opposite direction. Again create irregular bunches with the plastic bags and rubber bands.

    • 7

Repeat the process using the second color of dye.

    • 8

Rinse all excess dye from your shirt. Wash it with a mild detergent before use.
